Biodegradable plant-based materials are gaining popularity. These raw materials include: cake, sugarcane, corn starch, wheat straw. It is precisely on the latter that I would like to dwell in this article in more detail.

Products made from wheat straw are distinguished by their individual appearance - textured pattern - material with small splashes of brown color (beige color - material without dye).

Wheat straw biomaterial has a number of undeniable advantages. Probably the most significant is its practicality - products made from wheat straw can be heated and frozen, that is, they can withstand temperature drops from +100 to -20 degrees Celsius. It is because of its heat resistance that wheat straw dishes are a new fashionable ecotrend of catering and food delivery in Europe. These products are absolutely safe, do not contain harmful and toxic substances, and comply with FDA standards. Wheat straw dishes are strong enough, practical, lightweight, difficult to deform, with a smooth surface and do not leak.

The process of making products from wheat straw is not that complicated. Wheat is harvested every year and there is no shortage of straw. The straw is crushed to a homogeneous cellulose mass, special organic plastic components are added, mixed, poured into molds, pressed, dried and sterilized with ultraviolet light. At the same time, the production process is not at all energy-consuming, and the water used to cool products made from wheat straw has a closed cycle (it goes in a circle). This business is quite profitable, but I do not know Ukrainian manufacturers (maybe I was looking badly).

Disposal of such items - composting - decomposes in the soil within a few months without harm to the environment. Not recyclable.

The range of our eco-goods store Eco1.shop includes dozens of products made from wheat straw: toothbrushes, glasses, combs, pens, soap dishes, toothpick holders, cutlery and will continue to expand. From my own experience, I can say that this material in everyday life behaves in almost the same way as ordinary plastic. It is very practical and NO it does not decompose in your apartment, does not crumble, does not crack - absolutely nothing happens to it. In order for the decomposition process to begin, soil, moisture, microorganisms are needed.
