Xylitol is a natural sweetener used as a substitute for sugar. First, xylose is obtained from corn or birch bark, which is then defended to xylitol. Xylitol is 40% less caloric than sugar, but both sugar and xylitol taste equally sweet. The natural sweetener is slowly digested and has a glycemic index of just 7, meaning you feel full longer, less likely to snack, and therefore more likely to lose weight. Xylitol contributes to the preservation of dental health (stops and even treats caries, restores small cracks and cavities in the tooth, reduces plaque, reduces the risk of tartar and generally protects teeth from decay).
